About Me

I am Lawrence Weber, a general lover of digital things, Head of Digital at Karmarama, FWA judge and writer, contributor to brand-e and a member of the IPA Digital Business Group.

If you really need to, then you can take a look at my LinkedIn profile or FWA interview for all the detail, but stay here for interesting stuff I find and some stuff of my own.

BTW- I live on an island called West Mersea, hence the oh so clever name of this blog.

The guys at FWA and brand-e are kind enough to let me contribute content, here are links to some FWA things

Lie about the weather

This is a simple but funny app from Nation

It bascially tells you today's weather and then- regardless of the truth- tells you the weather tomorrow is going to be amazing.

Android only, but lovely all the same

Google +

I managed to get a Google + login, will write a longer post about that and what it might be cool to do with it at some point.

In the meantime have a look at the nice site that B-Reel built with Google Creative Lab to explain it. Nice Google Maps Mash-up.

Everyone has an e-book in them

I really like the thinking behind Varytale, a new start up who are creating tools to allow everyone to publish an e-book

As they point out in this blog post the problem with e-readers replacing real books, is that the democratisation of publishing that the Internet brought in doesn't apply anymore. You can't create apps on your own.

Their tools are aimed at doing something about that, as well as exploring the new e-book medium as a way of giving users control over narrative development.

Tell Google what you love

This is a nice search innovation from Google. You have for ages, been able to switch between the various facets of search using the same term, but this is a nice way of combining it into one place.

Go to

Type in your term- in this case our lovely Being Henry project

And there you go

Diesel gets clever with Facebook- TWICE!

Here are a couple of Facebook goodun's from Diesel.

The first is funny and simple and is called Be Stupid at Work. Take your Facebook updates and stream into an Adobe Air app that looks like a spreadsheet. Reminds me of the boss key in Liesure Suit Larry. Not sure there is a real need for this, but someone somewhere has a boss who doesn't like the internet.

The next is a real world digital thing, mashing up Facebook and everybody's favourite QR codes. Basically you use a QR code to Like a product and it appears in your news feed, infecting your friends with purchase desire.
