Toyota Plug-In Championship

This is nice.

To launch their new Prius PHV electric car, Toyota have launched the Plug-In app.

I hear you yawning already, but this is an app that some people might actually use ;).

Every time you plug you charge your phone, the App records the time and your location and gives you a score.

Your reward is a random but entertaining video, and entry on to a scoreboard.

It's a nice piece of gentle gamification, that doesn't demand too much. The rewards could be a little better explained though.

Toyota is finding ways to keep up with the technology that their customers prefer. The launch of a feature like that can only help to maintain the reputation of their brand as a leader in the automobile industry. I wonder if any other car companies will follow?

I wish it offered more features but I suppose that they want to see how consumers respond to it first. Then they will know how to tweak it so that it becomes a more important selling point for the car.
